1. Our Commitment to Your Privacy

Generation Justice – Rule of Law Foundation (“Generation Justice”, “we”, “us” or “our”) respects the privacy of every person who joins, participates in, or communicates with Generation Justice.

Generation Justice exists to encourage law students, young lawyers and others around the world to participate in discussion, education and activities supporting justice and the Rule of Law.

We recognise that members entrust us with personal information when they register with us.

We will not sell, rent or trade members’ personal information or contact details. We will not provide members’ contact details to third parties for their own marketing or promotional purposes.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the rights of members in relation to their personal information.

2. Who We Are

Generation Justice – Rule of Law Foundation is responsible for the personal information collected through the Generation Justice website and membership system.

For the purposes of applicable data protection legislation, including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (“UK GDPR”) and the Data Protection Act 2018, Generation Justice – Rule of Law Foundation is the organisation responsible for determining how members’ personal information is used.

3. Information We May Collect

When a person registers as a member of Generation Justice or participates in our activities, we may collect information including:

• email address;
• country or region;
• university, educational institution or professional organisation;
• academic or professional status;
• areas of legal or professional interest;
• membership profile information;
• information voluntarily supplied by the member;

We seek to collect only information that is reasonably necessary for the operation and development of Generation Justice.

5. We Do Not Sell or Share Membership Lists

Generation Justice regards its membership information as confidential.

We do not sell, rent or commercially distribute our membership database.

In particular, we will not provide members’ names, email addresses or other contact information to companies or other organisations so that they can market products or services to our members.

Where Generation Justice works with universities, educational organisations, speakers, supporters, sponsors or other organisations, this does not give those organisations access to our membership database.

6. Limited Disclosure of Information

There may nevertheless be limited circumstances in which personal information must be disclosed.

Information may be provided to carefully selected service providers where this is reasonably necessary to operate the website or membership system, for example providers of website hosting, email systems, database services or technical support.

Such organisations should only receive the information reasonably necessary to provide their services and should not be permitted to use members’ personal information for their own marketing purposes.

We may also disclose information where required by law, court order or a lawful request from a competent public authority.

7. Communications with Members

Generation Justice may use the contact details provided by members to send information connected with membership and our activities.

This may include information about:

• new educational materials;
• Rule of Law discussions and initiatives;
• broadcasts and webinars;
• conferences and events;
• competitions;
• volunteer and ambassador opportunities;
• Generation Justice projects; and
• other activities reasonably connected with the purposes of the Foundation.

Where required by law, members will be given the opportunity to consent to particular communications and to unsubscribe from optional communications.

8. Public Profiles and Member Contributions

Generation Justice may provide opportunities for members to create profiles, participate in discussions, submit articles or essays, comment on Rule of Law issues, or otherwise contribute material.

Members should remember that information they deliberately choose to publish in a public area of the website may be visible to other users or to the general public.

Generation Justice will not treat information deliberately published by a member as private information to the extent that the member has chosen to make it public.

Members should therefore avoid publishing private contact information or other sensitive personal information in public areas of the website.

9. International Membership

Generation Justice is an international initiative and its members may be located in many different countries.

Where personal information is processed or stored outside the United Kingdom, Generation Justice will seek to ensure that appropriate safeguards are used where required by applicable data protection law.

10. Protecting Personal Information

Generation Justice will take reasonable organisational and technical measures to protect personal information against:

• unauthorised access;
• accidental loss;
• misuse;
• alteration;
• disclosure; and
• destruction.

Access to membership information should be restricted to persons who reasonably require access for the administration or operation of Generation Justice.

No internet-based system can provide an absolute guarantee of security, but we will take reasonable precautions appropriate to the nature of the information we hold.

11. How Long We Keep Information

We will retain personal information only for as long as it is reasonably required for the purposes for which it was collected, for the administration of membership, or to comply with applicable legal obligations.

If a member leaves Generation Justice or requests deletion of an account, we will delete or anonymise personal information when it is no longer reasonably necessary to retain it, subject to any legal obligations requiring us to keep particular records.

Subject to applicable data protection law, members may have the right to:

• request access to personal information held about them;
• request correction of inaccurate information;
• request deletion of personal information;

Generation Justice is principally intended for university students, law students, young lawyers and other adults interested in the Rule of Law.

If activities are offered to persons under the age of 18, Generation Justice may introduce additional safeguards, consent procedures or restrictions appropriate to their age and the nature of the activity.

The Generation Justice website may use cookies and similar technologies that are necessary for the operation, security and functionality of the website.
